A Story of Status and Survival of an influencer and a rapper

Tu Yaa Main movie review

Tu Yaa Main features newcomers with Adarsh Gourav who was previously seen in the web ‘series Guns & Gulaabs’ and Shanaya Kapoor who is Sanjay Kapoor’s daughter. The film is basically about a disaster, there is a crocodile in a dilapidated pool that is after them.

Maruti (Aala Flowpara) a rapper played by Adarsh Gourav is shown as a poor boy who lives in a chawl in Virar with his mother. High profile influencer Avani Shah (Miss Vanity) played by Shanaya Kapoor is a girl from a wealthy family. She’s orphaned because both her parents died in an accident.

Produced by Himanshu Sharma, Tu Yaa Main is an adaptation of a Thai horror thriller film – The Pool. Two content creators’ adventure becomes a deadly game of survival, forcing them to navigate both nature’s dangers and their own rivalry. It’s also about a pool in which a boy and a girl are trapped during the rainy season and a crocodile is after them. As a bonus, there’s another crocodile, Bijoy Nambiar, who’s the director.

Bejoy Nambiar has delivered above-average films to date. But this is by far the best as far as his career is a concerned. The mother’s role is played by Kshitee Jog, who is very good, and Police officer Tawde (Shrikant Yadav), who is a cunning but genuine cop.

And in this film, Biz has liberally taken bygone music from the era of hit music, like the song “Chori Chori Yoon Jab Aake Chaar Ho Jata Hai” from the film “Paap Ki Duniya” and “Tum Hi Hamari Ho Manzil My Love” (Yaara Dildaara). Situationally, these two songs are the highlights of this film.

However, I doubt whether the new song was composed specifically for this film. But whenever these two songs appear in the film, they suit your nerves. They are melodious. Adarsh Gourav is playing influencer Floppara, who hails from Nala Sopara. What a rhyme they’re created by Sopara, Flopara and Nala Sopara. Shanaya Kapoor comes across her when she’s coming back in her car after a concert, where Sanaya plays Avni, an upper curst social media influencer. Both Adarsh Gourav and Shanaya Kapoor have done excellent work.

However, there is no particular story except for the one and a half hour story of how Ananya and Adarsh Gourav try to save themselves from the chasing crocodiles. It’s very awe inspiring because we rarely see such scenes in Hindi films.

This also reminds me of Shanaya Kapoor’s cousin sister, Janhvi Kapoor, who did a similar sort of a role in a film who is shown working in a food shop and how she gets trapped when other staff members leave the shop, thinking everyone has left. There’s some symbolic reference to that film and similar to that film, in this thriller there’s a sense of fear in the audience. What will happen now? What will happen now?

This is Shanaya Kapoor’s second film to be released. However she has exceeded performance-wise in what she did in her earlier debut film. Bejoy Nambiar has to be credited for making you feel goose bombs in your stomach when you watch the crocodile chasing the couple turn by turn. Unfortunately the crocodile managed to grab the dog which was out of the pool as well as the delivery boy.

There is no point in revealing further as it would spoil the thrill in this latest disaster cum musical film though it has remixed songs. Hats off to Adarsh Gourav and Shanaya Kapoor as there are minimal dialogues yet they portrayed their fear through their facial expressions.

What is interesting is how the rapper Flopara from Nala Sopara and Influencer Miss Vanity meet together. Initially Adarsh Gourav looks like a roadside Romeo who chases Shanaya’s car and in a flow of events between Anya and Flopara these two meet and love happens between them. This is an interesting sequence as also interesting is how the screen play has evolved in this film. More so because this film is based on the Thai horror film The Pool.

There are plenty of edge of the seat thrilling moments thanks to Bejoy Nambiar’s direction. And very rarely do we get to see films like Tu Ya Main. Produced by Anand Rai, this film has some great content though it lacks stars. An interesting watch of 143 minutes.
